Working with big cats is a very
gratifying, special and unique experience. We consider our work here a privilege and look forward to the opportunity to share
our experiences, and knowledge with those who will be walking in our footsteps in the future. Interns and students of today
are the ones charged with assuring that these animals have a future. Our internship program is our way of assuring that future
generations will have the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful animals as much as we have.
We appreciate the work
our volunteers do, and realize that they are giving their time to benefit our animals and our facility. You must be 18
or over, we do not allow drugs or alcohol on the premises. It is important to have a clear mind when working with the
tigers. Most importantly no one is allowed to touch or pet the tigers! Absolutely no hands-on contact is permitted with any of our animals.
This is a liability for us; anyone caught doing this will be removed from the property immediately! The
safety of our volunteers is very important, and the well being of the tigers.
Being involved in the
day to day care, and helping to meet the medical, nutrition and overall health needs of these beautiful cats are
an unmatched opportunity that most people never get to experience. Developing a bond with a tiger is a unique experience
that will be cherished for years to come. Each of our volunteers will develope a special relationship with our tigers,
they will have their favorites, and develope a relationship with each cat. This type of bond doesn’t happen
by just visiting a facility. It doesn't happen as you walk by and look at an animal; it happens when you are around
them for an extended period of time. Long enough for them to become accustomed to your presence, and long enough for
them to learn to trust you. It is only after you have earned their trust that they will allow you to be a part of their
lives.
Sometimes the work we
do is dirty, smelly or just plain nasty. Other times the work here isn't that bad. Most of our work involves
cleaning enclosures, feeding animals, or building/repairing enclosures. When it is hot, we sweat, when it rains we get
wet, and when it is cold, we freeze. We do what we do for these animals because they deserve it. They are innocent victims
that deserve a second chance at living a life safe and free from abuse!
If you are able to perform
some physical labor, are dependable and trustworthy, and can commit to at least a few hours each week, we would like
to talk with you about becoming one of our volunteers. We provide the training; we provide the tools. All we need from
you is a little time and an appreciation for the animals we serve.
You are responsible for
the proper dress, when working here, rain coat, boots etc. We provide disposable gloves, etc. We will share our
knowledge of exotic animals with you, our experience is from many years of hands on training. We have worked with vets from
Texas A&M , we were cat curators for Tiger Missing Link in Tyler Texas, Noahsland of Texas, in Harwood, and Wayne's World
Safari in Corpus Christy Texas, I personally cared for over 80 big cats here in Ohio at a local rescue facility. Our rescue
is small, and we are just starting out, and working on getting our non-profit status, but we devote much attention to our
cats, and we are blessed to have this opportunity to care for them. They are our lives, and it is the most fulfilling thing
we have ever done!
If you think
this is something you would like to do, we can set up an appointment to meet you, we can document your time spent here with
the cats so you receive the proper credit for your schooling. We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Denise Flores
